For the fourth year in a row, Dunn will serve as captain for the Australians...

Related:

Wayne Bennett is one of the the most famous sports figures in Australia.

A former rugby player, the 60-year-old Bennett set coaching records for the most grand finals wins (six) and the most years (21) with a single club in Australian rugby league history.

The two-time Coach of the Year is also known for rarely smiling, and for never being outwardly emotional, regardless of a game’s outcome.

Australian Ben Jones, who is probably the most outwardly emotional bull rider in the PBR’s Top 40, beams when talking about Bennett.

According to Jones, “Troy [Dunn] has spent a lot of time with [Bennett] the last six months, so he’s bringing that aspect” with to the World Cup this week.

For the fourth year in a row, Dunn will serve as captain for the Australians.

“Me and Troy have been talking all week,” Jones said, “and it’s time to step up to the plate. We think we have one of the best teams we’ve ever had.”

“It’s a pretty good team, and I think everyone’s riding as good as they can,” said Pete Farley, who along with his older brother Jared, Brendon Clark, David Kennedy and Jones make up the Team Australia roster. Jason O’Hearn will be there as an alternate.

They’ve been optimistic in past years, though, and have never finished better than fourth out of five teams.

“We’ve definitely underachieved,” Jones admitted, “but the team we’ve got this year…everyone’s peaking right at the right time.”

In 2010, Jones has been the most successful on the Built Ford Tough Series. The 31-year-old, who is ranked 26th in the world, is having a career year, while both Farley brothers recently worked their way back onto the BFTS as alternates, along with Kennedy.

Just last weekend, Clark won an international event in Edmonton, Canada.

According to Pete Farley, the key to success this weekend will be going about their business individually.

“I think we all have to go at it as individuals,” he said. “We are a team, but five of us aren’t riding a bull at once, so do what works for us and don’t get too caught up in trying to ride other people’s bulls for them.

“Just ride our own bulls and do what we [did] to get here.”

(PBR) is excited to announce a three-year extension of its partnership with Dickies®, the official work wear sponsor of the PBR, continuing the relationship through the 2013 season.

A partner of the PBR since 2005, Dickies is the presenting sponsor for the upcoming 2010 World Cup, the PBR’s premier international event, which comes to the United States for the first time on Apr. 16-18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Under the partnership extension, Dickies will become the sole sponsor of the DuraBullfighter team in addition to increased chute signage, more robust in-arena signage and a more comprehensive VIP experience.

“The PBR is thrilled to extend our association with Dickies,” said Kevin Camper, chief sales and marketing officer for the PBR. “From outfitting our bullfighters to sponsoring top-notch events like the World Cup and the extremely successful Iron Cowboy at Cowboys Stadium, Dickies has continuously supported the PBR and our hardworking cowboys and bullfighters.”

Dickies was the title sponsor for the Iron Cowboy Invitational at the state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, last month. The head-to-head bracket format produced the largest single-day crowd for a PBR event in North America with 46,321 fans, as well as the biggest payout at a one-day event in PBR history, as Valdiron de Oliveira received $260,000.

Dickies has also been the title sponsor and outfitter of the DuraBullfighter team, the official bullfighting team of the PBR for the last five years .The Dickies DuraBullfighter team is Joe Baumgartner, Shorty Gorham, Frank Newsom, Jesse Byrne and alternate Darrell Diefenbach.

“The Dickies Brand Team continues to find innovative ways to engage our consumers,” said Tad Uchtman, senior vice president of marketing, merchandising, licensing and retail at Dickies. “Deepening our relationship with a sport that has the heritage and authenticity of the PBR is the perfect fit for our brand values.”

The PBR is the premiere bull riding organization in the world with the best riders from the United States, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Canada. One of the fastest-growing sports in the country, PBR events air weekly on VERSUS, NBC, CBS, and FOX.

LAS VEGAS (March 19, 2010) – The world standings represent how well each individual bull rider has performed over the course of an entire Built Ford Tough Series. But that’s not always a true indication of how well each is riding at the present time, which is where the new unofficial Power Rankings come into play.

There is no tried-and-true formula to figuring it out. It’s a subjective look at the top riders in the world. So too are the rankings of NCAA football, basketball and every other college sport, including the Coaches’ poll, the AP poll, the BCS and every other poll or Power Ranking available online or in print.

The monthly Power Rankings typically represent individual riders. This month, the power rankings represent the 2010 World Cup participants.

1. United States – Austin Meier, McKennon Wimberly, J.B. Mauney, Kody Lostroh and Jordan Hupp: For the first time in four years, the United States team is the unanimous favorite to win what would be its third consecutive Cup event. Seven of the Top 10 riders in the world are Americans. The only quandary for captain J.W. Hart is coming up with a replacement for Lostroh if he’s unable to compete because of injuries. Hart said his pool is so deep, he could cut all five riders, replace them with five different riders, and feel just as confident. At this time, the most likely replacement candidate has to be Jody Newberry.

2. Canada – Aaron Roy, Scott Schiffner, Devon Mezei, Tyler Thomson and Tanner Girletz: After back-to-back second-place finishes, the Canadians were disappointed to leave Brazil with a third-place finish last year. Cody Snyder, who has captained all four Canadian teams, said that 2009 left a bitter taste in his mouth. He’s a master at motivating riders, and that may be why this year’s roster is almost unchanged from a year ago – he intends to use that experience as a means of getting more out of his team.

3. Brazil – Robson Palermo, Guilherme Marchi, Fabiano Vieira, Silvano Alves and Edimundo Gomes: It was a huge blow to have to replace Valdiron de Oliveira; the second-ranked rider in the world is out with a broken bone in his shoulder. Renato Nunes’ exclusion because of a “negative attitude” indicates that all is not well with Team Brazil. Team captain Adriano Moraes said in an interview that Nunes was back on board, but then, an hour later, told the PBR to keep his original roster as it was.

4. Australia – Pete Farley, Jared Farley, Ben Jones, David Kennedy and Rhys Angland: Troy Dunn, who will again captain the Aussies, is without a doubt one of the great bull riders of all time. But he’s yet to get much from his team. Perhaps adding Ben Jones to this year’s roster (in place of Brendon Clark) will add a little enthusiasm to an otherwise vanilla cast of characters, who have never seemed outwardly motivated to win the World Cup.

5. Mexico – Rocky McDonald, Gustavo Pedrero, Francisco Morales, Nile Lebaron and Lorenzo Rios: It was believed that with two captains – Amando Aguirre, President of the Mexican Federation of Rodeo, and Ruben Mujica, President of Cuernos Chuecos, a Mexican bull riding league – and a coach, Gerardo Venegas, Team Mexico could turn things around. However, it’s been widely reported the two captains don’t like one another, and McDonald was named to the team without ever having been contacted. Rios was a late addition after Hugo Pedrero declined the offer to compete.

Early Prediction: The top three countries are clearly better than the other two. But Canada won’t face the same pressure or expectations as the United States, and they certainly don’t have the stress and drama of the Brazilians. In an event that comes down to the final ride, Canada edges the United States to finally win its first World Cup title.
